Think your community needs a look?

Citizens, neighborhood groups, and civic organizations bring us the communities we investigate. Here's how it works — and what it costs you. (Nothing.)

Anyone can refer a community.

You don't have to be an organization, a donor, or an expert. If the spending in your city or county doesn't add up and nobody is answering questions, tell us. We review every referral.

What happens next.

We do a preliminary records review to see whether the public record supports a full investigation. If it does, we open one. If it doesn't, we tell you that too — plainly.

What it costs.

Nothing. LGAI is not a consultancy and does not take engagements. We are funded by citizens who believe local government should be watched, and we decide independently what we investigate and what we publish. Nobody buys a finding — not the government, and not the person who referred it.

If you want to fund the work.

Investigations cost money: records fees, analyst time, data acquisition. Contributions to LGAI are private. As a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, LGAI is not required to publicly disclose its donors, and we do not. Contributions are not tax-deductible. Fund an investigation →
